When everything about life seems simply dreadful it's reasonable to talk to the Author of Life about how exactly the story is going. So what exactly do you say to the One True and Almighty God of the Universe when you're not loving it anymore? Perhaps simply the truth!

REVEL, REMEMBER, RE-ENGAGE, REPEAT – Psalm 126
The fact that God has sustained the people of Israel throughout the ages is a historical fact, a lovely and lengthy list of marvelous miracles and a super, significant study in itself. Yet you can't just ignore the context of struggle, of hardship and often straight up hatred that the Jews have faced from Bible times to modern times. So when the Psalmist talks about, "Those who sow with tears, will reap with songs of joy." (v.5) this isn't just a pretty poem. This is a phrase crafted from astute observation. How bold do you have to be to pray for crazy glue when you inhabit a shattered planet?

IN THE IMAGE OF THE INFINITE AND HOLY ONE, WOW – Psalm 139
The Psalmist writes with great awe, "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." This isn't braggadocious. Rather this is the psalmist realizing God didn't break the mold after He created humanity rather God is the mold and the mold is made of platinum gold and we are made of clay.

Psalm 121

MY KEEPER KEEPS KEEPING ME KEPT - Psalm 121 is one of the, "psalms of ascent", a particular group of 15 psalms that the Jewish pilgrims would focus on as they made their way from the countryside to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Considering the risks of life in general and certainly of things out of the ordinary like travel or a pending surgery it's great to have a song that lifts your head up, keeps you moving forward. Especially a song, a prayer or a psalm which reminds you, God ultimately always has your back, if you just ask.
